| SYNOPSIS |
|
This classic American musical celebrates the story of Mame Dennis, a well-to-do woman who lives in New York at the peak of the 1920s. She becomes the guardian of her nephew, Patrick. The 10-year-old needs his aunt and this is something new for Mame -- to be needed. It changes her life and brings her into sharp contrast with her best friend, Vera Charles, a multi-martini grand dame of the legitimate theater who can't stand children. Mame is a happy, happening, irrepressible and intent on raising her nephew to lead an equally liberating life. The maturing Patrick seems to be slipping away from Mame's ideals of freedom. When he declares his engagement to a fatuous blond "with an IQ of a dead flashlight battery," Mame is in despair. Just as young Patrick rescued her from the shallow trap of the 1920s, she helps the boy save himself from a life of drabness and snobbery. This delightful musical is filled with songs you will certainly be familiar with; songs like "We Need a Little Christmas", "If He Walked Into My Life" and "Open a New Window". |
